KINTSUGI
Kintsugi is the traditional Japanese technique of repairing broken ceramics with lacquer and powdered gold or other precious metals. The philosophy behind Kintsugi, which literally translates to “golden joinery,” involves embracing one's flaws, living more humbly, and remembering we can always begin again despite past failures. (This is a great article if you want to read more.)
My modernized approach to this ancient art form varies. Sometimes I start with vintage pottery, which I source from flea markets. Other times, I begin from scratch, collaborating with local ceramicists on new pieces, which I break and repair using Kintsugi principles.
Shop my pieces online, by phone, or in person at La Maison Fete in Bedford, NY.
